Rhett! Rhett! Where shall I go, what shall I do.?
"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!"
GONE WITH THE WIND (1939)
Starring: Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Olivia De Havilland, Leslie Howard.
Running time: 224 minutes.
Based on the 1937 novel by Margaret Mitchell.
Technicolor.
Ten Academy Awards.
Produced by David O. Selznick for MGM.
Gone With The Wind is "first among equals" of classic Hollywood golden era movies. It is set during the American Civil War, and captures the epic drama of that tragedy. The production and camera work during the burning of Atlanta scenes are the finest ever captured on film. The drama and romance is highlighted with excellent performances by Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh as Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara. Olivia de Havilland gives an excellent performance as the warm, loving, and compassionate Melanie Hamilton Wilkes.

Although The Wizard Of Oz lost out (2-10) in the number of Academy Awards to Gone With The Wind in 1939, it went on to become the most well known movie around the world. With a yellow brick road, ruby slippers, and the song "Over The Rainbow", its magic touched millions, and is loved by young and old alike. A pair of those ruby slippers sold at auction for $660,000 in 2002.
The story evolves around a young girl named Dorothy, and her dog Toto, who are swept up by a tornado in Kansas, and dropped into a world full of strange and wonderful characters.

CASABLANCA (1942)
Starring: Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Claude Rains, Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre.
3 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
Running time: 102 minutes
Black & white

Each year this movie is voted as one of the top ten great movies of all time.
Famous lines include, "Here's looking at you, kid", "Round up the usual suspects.", and "Sing it, Sam."
"We'll always have Paris" - that's for you Suzanne of Brigantine.
Theme song: "As Time Goes By."
Humphrey Bogart was nominated for an Oscar, but he would have to wait for a later movie African Queen to earn his Academy Award.
The story takes place during World War II in Paris and later in North Africa, where an American night club owner becomes involved in helping refugees escape the Nazis. Wonderful romance story between Ingrid Bergman and Bogart.
The additional video clips at the end of this original trailer are worth watching.

THE ROBE (1953)
Starring: Richard Burton, Jean Simmons, Victor Mature, Michael Rennie.
Technicolor/Cinemascope
Running time: 135 minutes
The Robe was the first movie in wide screen Cinemascope developed by 20th Century Fox. Another reason I include this in my movie project is that I worked at 20th Century Fox in Soho Square, and I went to the private screening of this movie and sat alongside Jean Simmons in the company's small theater. I became a fan of hers for many years - especially in Young Bess. She was always very beautiful and so friendly.

WAR AND PEACE (1956)
Starring: Audrey Hepburn, Henry Fonda, Mel Ferrer.
Technicolor
Based on the novel by Tolstoy.
Napoleon's invasion of Russia (1812) and disaster during the retreat from Moscow is captured in magnificent scenes. Add the romance between Audrey Hepburn, Mel Ferrer, and Henry Fonda, gives you a story as told by Tolstoy in his novel of the same name. Audrey Hepburn is stunning in this movie.
I included this movie for one reason: Audrey Hepburn has always been in the top of my list of the most beautiful women I have ever seen.
She does move after a few seconds

THE SOUND OF MUSIC (1965)
Starring: Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer
5 Academy Awards
Technicolor
Running time: 174 minutes
The Sound of Music is the third all-time highest grossing movie behind Gone With The Wind, and
Star Wars. Written by Rodgers and Hammerstein, it tells the story of the von Trapp family's escape over the Swiss Alps from Nazi occupied Austria in 1938. Julie Andrews was disappointed not to be selected for the movie role of Eliza in My Fair Lady, but she landed this role that exceeded all expectations. With great hit songs that made the hills come alive, "The Sound Of Music", "Do-Re-Mi", "Edelweiss", "Climb Every Mountain", and "Sixteen Going On Seventeen", the movie was an instant smash hit around the world, and Jullie Andrews went on to become a mega-star.

DR.ZHIVAGO (1965)
Starring: Julie Christie, Omar Sharif, Alec Guiness, Rod Steiger.
Based on the novel by Boris Pasternak
Five Academy Awards
Running time: 197 minutes
Technicolor
David Lean is arguably one of the finest motion picture directors. His other films include, Lawrence Of Arabia, and Bridge Over The River Kwai... In this motion picture he captures the Russian landscape with sweeping vistas of cinemaphotography. The winter scenes are memorable especially the magnificent ice house scenes. A love story between a doctor/poet and a nurse during the Russian revolution. Julie Christie (Lara) is an absolute beautiful young woman in this story, which I wish would have ended otherwise...but that is the Russian novelist at work.

THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING (1975)
Starring: Sean Connery, Michael Caine.
Directed by: John Huston
Running time: 129 minutes
Technicolor
Once called the most underrated movie it was eventually given a four star rating by most critics. As with all Rudyard Kipling stories, this leans heavily on the granduer of the British Empire and its military exploits in India.
Two British Army sergeants go in search of fame and fortune among the tribal mountains of India and Afghanistan. It also features a Gurhka soldier, Billy Fish, who asks Michael Caine "Are Englishmen, Gods?" to which Caine answers, "No, but the next best thing." The dialogue between Michael Caine and Sean Connery is entertaining and amusing.
This trailer and story is told by John Huston

What a magnificent inspirational story and movie...and music.
Winner of four Academy Awards including Best Picture.
I guess you had to go to school in England and run on the sands along the beach...and sing in the school choir... "And did those feet in ancient time walk upon England's mountains green. Bring me my chariots of fire" William Blake
A true story based on the lives of two college aged young men who competed for, and won, a place on the 1924 Olympic team for Great Britain, at a time when only amatuers could compete.
Harold Abraham, an English Jew, who had to overcome predjudice at Cambridge, and Eric Liddell a devout Christian who would not run on the Sabbath.
Abraham won the gold medal in the 100 metres held on a Sunday, and Liddell won the gold medal in the 400 metres held on the following Monday.

STAR WARS (1977-1983)
This logo was used for the entire series
Starring: Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamil, Alec Guiness,
David Prowse (Darth Vader), James Earl Jones (voice of Darth Vader)
Created and produced by George Lucas.
STAR WARS: With an unprecedented advertising and marketing campaign, the Star Wars movie saga entered every home via merchandising of toys, clothing, games, posters, etc. The iconic lighted sword was everywhere, and phrases such as "the dark side" became everyday household terms, and new characters were plentiful, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Captain Solo, R2-D2. With its mystical romance and adventure, it eventually became the all-time top grossing movie endeavor alongside Gone With The Wind. With never seen before graphics and spellbinding technical special effects, the films were an immediate smash hit sensation across the world.
May the force be with you.
The first triology was:
1. A New Hope (1977): 7 Academy Awards
2. The Empire Strikes back (1980): 2 Academy Awards
3. Return of the Jedi (1983): 1 Academy Award
The original triology was the most critically acclaimed, and won most of the awards of the entire series.

TERMINATOR 2
Notes: I don't like Arnold - but I love Sarah Connor
The first video is the best trailer...bluray don't cut it.
Arnold certainly fooled the California voters by impregnating and supporting his Mexican housemaid, while his wife was pregnant...thus earning his new title "The Sperminator"
Not that the producer/director ego-maniac Cameron was any better....and sad to say he was married to (sic) Sarah Connor for a while.
However, the action and Sarah make the movie enjoyable enough to fit on my list....just my thoughts amid a project still in motion....

WAR HORSE
A Steven Spielberg film
I added WAR HORSE because I think it will garner many Academy Award nominations, and in 2012 it will spawn a new round of documentaries and film of World War 1.
PETER SELLERS: PINK PANTHER SERIES
Here begins Peter Sellers from various scenes in the "Pink Panther" series.
These films rank the best in my favorite humour films.
The out-takes are often funnier than the final scenes.
One of the most famous scenes is where Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau
confronts a blind accordian player (and his "minkey") while the bank behind them is being robbed...and he even throws a dropped money bag back into the get-away car...and then knocks out the bank manager who is giving chase
...and thus begins Chief Inspector Dreyfus on his road to insanity.
the next is probably the most well known scene and phrase
'does your dog bite'
Cato is Inspector Clouseau's manservant who has instructions to launch surprise attacks on Clousea - these become regular comedic scenes in the series.
And his famous parrallel bars scene
I have to embed the "Does your dog bite" scene
Here are ten minutes of Clouseau scenes
